Wild Ark – article recap

Published / by StevenLHarris

Making the most of his early childhood memories of gathering sheep, riding horses and camping Wild Ark founder Mark Hutchinson imparts his love for preserving nature for this generation and generations to come.

Growing up in his home country of Australia, he recalled spending his holidays on friends’ farms and enjoying the wide open spaces. At the young age of 19, Hutchinson traveled the length of Africa by car. This guided his way to a deep affection for a remote wilderness adventure company, called Untamed, according to his blog post, wildark.com/blog/mark-hutchinson-for-the-wild.

Untamed, which emerged as Avana, was sold and Hutchinson eventually left the company to continue his wildlife journey. As the founder of several business ventures, Hutchinson united his love for nature with his entrepreneurial initiative to launch conservation company, Wild Ark.

According to Hutchinson, Wild Ark focuses on encouraging a passion for conservation through protecting the diversity of plant and animal life in the world as a whole, whether it be placing a tree in the ground, surfing or going for a bush walk.

Another focus of Wild Ark concentrates on obtaining land and restoring agricultural land.

Elaborating on his family’s favorite ways they benefit from nature, Hutchinson pointed out how his wife, Sophie and their children all take an active role in Wild Ark and how his oldest just finished a field guide course in South Africa. Learn more: https://www.ecotraining.co.za/about/owners/

He added that 80 percent of the family’s conversations at home revolve around what more they can do about wildlife.

Hutchinson draws on his passion for the wilderness to educate and make certain the planet is protected. An avid believer in education and a self-proclaimed student for life, Hutchinson obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Sydney and went on to receive an MBA from INSEAD Business School in France. He is currently studying for a Masters in Conservation Biology degree at Macquarie University. Learn more: https://www.facebook.com/wildarkglobal/posts/538048479728461

Andrew Rocklage: The Boston Entrepreneur Who Can Do It All

Published / by StevenLHarris

Andrew Rocklage is not your typical entrepreneur. While many refer to specialize in one business area and run with it, Mr. Rocklage has done the opposite. As a trained and accomplished lawyer, he surprised many when he decided to found and operate the Sky Zone Trampoline Park.

The unconventional business decision has paid off as the trampoline park is one of the most visited recreational areas in Boston. The move has also propelled Mr. Rocklage to join a select few who can call themselves the most successful entrepreneurs in Boston.

Andrew Rocklage is a native of Boston. He studied in the city, having graduated cum-laude with a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management and Economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst’s Isenberg School of Management.

Always passionate about becoming a lawyer, he then went on to attain his Juris Doctor degree at Suffolk University’s School of Law. Therefore, given his undying and passionate commitment to the city, it was only natural that he made it in Boston.

Mr. Rocklage’s professional career was just as diverse and eventful as the educational journey that preceded it. He first worked at Major League Lacrosse as a public relations intern. He then moved on to another sports franchise, in the Boston Red Socks, where he first worked as a legal department intern before being promoted to a ticket services associate.

He then had a brief stint at Cubist Pharmaceutical, serving first as a legal summer intern then as a legal consultant. Thereafter, after years working on the fringes of the law, he took his first job at a law firm, serving as a legal clerk at Doherty, Wallace, Pitsburry and Murphy P.C. He then moved to Avery, Dooley, and Noone, LLP where he served in a similar position.

Mr. Rocklage then finally joined the big leagues when he was employed by EPIRUS Biopharmaceuticals, first as a legal consultant, then as the Corporate Counsel. After two years at the company, he felt that the time had come to venture out on his own. Thereafter, he founded the Sky Zone Trampoline Park, now found in Daytona Beach and Port St. Lucie.

Andrew Rocklage’s uncanny ability to thrive wherever he goes is not down to luck. Rather, it is the result of a unique set of skills that he possesses, lacking in many entrepreneurs today.

In addition to being extremely daring, he has shown that shown a high level of business acumen, especially with regards to his good understanding of the business scene in Boston. Additionally, he knows how to build a brand successfully.

Knowing that Sky Zone Trampoline Park is largely a service-based business, he has the awareness to ensure that the employees display stellar customer service. Many often return to the park as a result of being treated in a friendly manner.

How Officers Use Securus Technologies Combating Drugs

Published / by StevenLHarris

Drugs inside the jail can be a real problem for anyone who has to work or reside behind those walls. As a corrections officer in this jail, I know that drugs in the hands of the inmates will make things more dangerous for all involved. To try and maintain a certain degree of order, me and my fellow officers will go to great lengths to utilize all the resources we have at our disposal to keep this environment safer for all.

What my team has determined is that the visitor center inside the jail is where the biggest threat of drugs changing hands will occur. To combat the drug problem, we start by warning each guest of the consequences if they are caught passing anything illegal to the inmates. We then search all of the guests, watch them interact with inmates, and then check the inmates before they can get to their cells. This is conjunction with checking inmate mail, listening to inmate calls, and searching inmate cells, has allowed us to really keep most of the drugs out of our jail.

The day that Securus Technologies installed their call monitoring system in our facility, we had another powerful resource in our efforts to keep drugs out of the jail. The company has one objective, making this world safe, and all 1,000 employees of this Dallas-based company are committed to that process. Once I was better familiar with the LBS software, it was incredibly easy to listen to inmates using the phone.

All of a sudden we have been able to pick up conversations where inmates are taking about using drugs in the yard, hiding drugs in the jail, or asking people on the outside to bring them drugs. When we hear anything drug related, we can spring to action instantly.
